Turku Science Park Ltd. to continue the work of Turku Technology Centre Ltd.

Over the last year, the City of Turku has invested strongly in developing Turku Science Park as an innovative environment that represents the co-operation between universities and business life as well as the synergy between companies. Development work has been done for a long time in the region, seeing as the Turku Technology Centre started up in the 1980s, and there are now a significant number of organisations that specialise in promoting business in the region.

The implementation of the Turku Science Park strategy began in summer 2001, when the City of Turku founded Turku Science Park Ltd. and ICT Turku Ltd. In one year, considerable restructuring has been implemented, which will result in the formation of the Turku Science Park group on the 30th of November 2002. In this restructuring, Turku Technology Centre Ltd and Turku Bio Valley Ltd. will be merged with Turku Science Park Ltd. and a new member, the mutual real-estate company that owns the Turku TV plant, will be founded within the group. Turku Bio Valley Ltd. will be refounded on the 1st of December 2002 to continue the operation of the Bio Valley as an operative subsidiary of the group. Bio Valley's Managing Director Juhani Leppä will remain in charge.

The goal of the Turku Science Park group is to develop Southwest Finland's innovative environment in close co-operation with universities and companies. The group's parent company, Turku Science Park Ltd, will be responsible for the comprehensive development, strategy, marketing, funding and investing of the Science Park's operations as well as developing the group's global operations.
