Business Development

The business incubators of Turku Science Park have given a start to over 160 technology companies which have generated around 850 new jobs. The most common lines of business are ICT and biotechnology, but companies specialising in shipbuilding, wood processing and various services have also started in the incubators.

Business incubators
There are two incubator units operating in Turku Science Park: the Bio Incubator with laboratory facilities and DIO Business Centre for other technologies. Companies within the incubators’ development services may also be located elsewhere in Southwest Finland.
The incubators offer services for searching for innovations feasible for commercialisation, assessing new business ideas, finalising a business plan, and finding partners and financing. Companies can also get premises and consultation specialised in business development from the incubators. The survival rate of companies that have started in our incubators is nearly 90 per cent.

Entry criteria
Those planning to start entrepreneurial activities can contact the incubator already when working up their business idea. A so-called pre-incubator service can be applied to examine whether the business idea is feasible and suited to the incubator.
The Business Incubator can take in start-up companies with an acceptable business plan. The incubator team advises and guides in drawing up the business plan. The line of business of the incubator companies needs to be related to technology or high expertise. Growth companies and those with development potential have priority.
